The Non-stop Monsoons, & The Terrible Mosquitoes Of Arunachal Pradesh, in the North Eastern States of India

A brief write-up on the terrible Monsoons of Arunachal Pradesh follows, the following pictures. Please don't miss it.

As a new fresh entrant in the Navaratna Giant ONGC in the early 80's, I did get unbelievable opportunities to enjoy the dazzling scenic beauty of the North Eastern States of India. This good fortune lasted just for about a year. Damn sad, my tenure & stay in the North East was unusually short, just not enough to fully explore the heavenly beauty of the entire region. The wild, rugged beautty of the region was simply maddenning. But for ONGC, I would never have merrily toured the densely green forest areas of the North Eastern States, with its grand wildlife. Even after decades, I still fondly remember the simplicity & extreme innocense of the locals, & the unforgettable charm & beauty of the local tribes.

Even as a school kid, with immense love for Geography, I always dreamt of touring the wild Himalayan Mountain Ranges, the dense Vindhyas of Central India, the mesmerizing Western Ghats, & last but not the least 'The heavenly North Eastern States' of India.

After permanently leaving the 'Upper Assam Project' of ONGC, sadly I never ever went again to that region. Would love to happily tour this remote region once again now, but it's a terribly disturbed area today.
My husband Shekhar unfortunately was not lucky enough to have the same experience about the North East as me, except for a short stint in Arunachal Pradesh, on a very short temporary duty some time in the early days, before marriage. This was when he was just commissioned in the Indian Armed Forces Medical Corps.

His experience too was unforgettable, but terribly unforgettable. Arunachal had deadly, poisonous mosquitoes, & the mosquito bites of the humid, sultry region were simply unbearable.

Monsoons in the region were non-stop, & the blood sucking leech was a very common sight in the region The leeches were seen here, there, everywhere, looking for an inviting opportunity to suck out all your juicy, delicious blood. Monsoon rains in the region never ever stopped, & everyone in the local hospitals, offices & homes was seen in pathetically wet drenched clothes, including uniformed Colonels, Brigadiers & Generals. Poor, unfortunate clothes never saw the bright sun of the day to dry themselves. Hence everyone in the region got fully Monsoonised, with the non-stop Monsoon rains. And every single one in this geographical location, was seen, with fresh blood oozing out pathetically, from their limbs & body, due to intensely painful leech bites.

Shekhar doesn't remember anything, other than the vampire mosquitoe bites, & the blood-sucking leech bites of this part of the North East.

He finds it difficult to believe, whenever I describe my breathtaking adventures to him, describing the intoxicating beauty of this region. Wonder if he would ever like to accompany me on a holiday to this region, even in far-off future.

But still, we adore the North-Eastern States of India immensely, for its IMMACULATE, UNPOLLUTED, UNADULTERATED, DIVINE BEAUTY !!! The Untamed Amazonian Forest Of India !!!
